  • We may be a small business but we care about our impact on the planet. As part of a lockdown project, we undertook the @britainsmallbiz and @brookesforbusiness Sustainability Basics course and have calculating our CO2 emissions since June 2021. This year we’ve added to the Sustainability page on our website with a history of our footprint over the past four years. And this reel explains a bit about how we’ve managed to reduce it by four tonnes over the past 12 months. As the business continues to grow and we introduce new product lines, our emissions will inevitably increase too. How we manage those and endeavour to reduce our impact in other ways is an ongoing process. We’d love to hear from other small businesses who’ve come up with great ideas to minimise their own impact. As an aside, our calculations are based on assumptions and averages, such as the emissions of production, which is based on 3.73kg CO2 for every kg of finished goods. And the average digital emissions of a small business of 0.7 tonnes CO2 per year (@thesmall99). We are proud to work with a fulfilment warehouse that achieved B Corp status last year. And whilst we include the UK delivery emissions for the orders they dispatch in our calculations, we don’t currently include any other data for the @tidalfulfilment warehouse operation.   • Hello 👋. We’ve had a lot of you start following us recently so thought it was probably time to introduce you to Sarah, our founder, and the driving force behind Miss Milly. From her Worcestershire village base, Sarah works with local, female-led companies to keep the business running, such as @designintheshires down the road in Malvern who design and maintain the website, and @tidalfulfilment just over the county line in Herefordshire. This is where your orders are sent from. And our trade customers in Wales, Scotland, the Midlands, South East corner and the South West, may have met our friendly sales agents on their travels to stock gift shops, garden centres and boutiques with Miss Milly jewellery, scarves and bags. Sarah established Miss Milly 13 years ago after eight years running a similar business and has seen the industry evolve through two decades. She took the decision to become self-employed after travelling through South America and South East Asia in 2003-04, buying jewellery and other items on the way through, and then selling at festivals once back home as a side hustle to her career in Marketing and PR. It didn’t take long for her to see the potential for the business, left employment and hasn’t looked back!
