How many people end up doing the job they thought they’d do when younger? I certainly never expected to have my own jewellery and accessories brand and yet, here I am, 22 years later, poised to hand over the reins of Miss Milly to two fabulous people enthusiastically waiting to whisk her off on her next set of adventures!
Serious interlude: we expect the sale to now complete next week at which point the new owners will be in touch.
Named after both my daughter (the real Miss Milly, now loving university life) and my maternal grandmother, the business began way back in 2003 whilst travelling. It was a festival side hustle, then a fledgling business with a shop and homemade website, and then grew into the brand you now know from 2012. I dabbled in shopkeeping again with Miss Milly, The Emporium of Loveliness, and have always kept true to my core fundamentals of colourful, happy, honest and helpful. I firmly believe that if you’ve been brave enough to start your own business, you should also set your own guiding principles. ‘That’s the way it’s done’ is not always necessarily the way it should be done.
It has been a joy to end up working in the giftware industry with so many wonderful people. Sending a huge thank you to all my customers, colleagues and peers, suppliers and industry friends for your orders, support, camaraderie and friendship. I really couldn’t have wished for a better, unexpected career!
And if you want to see what I get up to next, join me at @thejoyfulrucksack for travel fun and adventures. Once a marketer… 😘
Love, Sarah x
